We are currently accepting poetry, fiction, non-fiction, and photography submissions. See below for details.
The theme for our upcoming Spring/Summer 2019 Issue is:
"The South Got More to Say..."
With this issue, we will aim to feature an array of content that speaks to the diverse experiences of the
American South from those that: 1) Were born and/or raised in the South, 2) Currently reside in the South, or
3) Are not directly connected to the region, but have a unique perspective on it.
We welcome and encourage submissions from: those of the African Diaspora, Latinx peoples, Asian peoples, women of color, LGBTQ people of color, natives/indigenous peoples, immigrants, refugees, those with disabilities, and those with intersectional identities.
Submission Deadline : March 31, 2019
Poetry Submissions
All types of poetry are accepted. Each poem should be formatted as it will appear if published. Up to three poems of any length may be submitted in a single submission. Files must be sent in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format.
Fiction Submissions
We accept short story submissions that must have a word count between 500-5,000 words. All short story submissions must be double-spaced in 12-pt. Arial or Times New Roman font. All necessary breaks or indentions should be included. A single, complete fiction submission requires 1 short story. Files must be sent in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format.
Non-Fiction Submissions
We accept essay submissions (personal commentary/op-ed, analytical, journalistic, and autobiographical) that have a word count between 600-2,500 words. All essay submissions must be double-spaced in 12-pt. Arial or Times New Roman font. All necessary breaks or indentions should be included. A single, complete non-fiction submission requires 1 essay. Files must be sent in .doc, .docx, or .pdf format.
Photography Submissions
We also accept photo essay submissions. A single, complete photo essay submission requires at least 5 photographs that convey visual consistency or an identifiable theme. Any additional text accompanying photos is not to exceed 600 words. Any necessary breaks or indentions should be included. Photography submissions must be sent in .jpeg or .pdf format.
Multimedia Submissions
For this issue, we are also accepting multimedia submissions. Eligible submissions include:
- short films (narrative and documentary---not to exceed 50 minutes in length/running time),
- audio (speeches and poetry readings/spoken word---not to exceed 30 minutes in length/running time), and - moving images (e.g. digital collages of original artwork). Trailers or previews for films are not eligible for submission.
All multimedia submissions should include the title of the work(s), all names of the authors and contributing artists of the work(s), and a brief description of each submitted work. Multimedia submissions must be submitted in .mp3 or .m4a for audio and .mov, .avi, and .mp4 for video. Files with sizes that exceed 25MB can be accepted via Google Drive or Dropbox links.

*As of now, Auburn Avenue does not provide compensation for published submissions.
*There is no limit on the number of submissions that can be made.
